DR. KENYA ROBERTS

Kenya Claiborne Roberts is the daughter of Dorothy Claiborne and Sam Claiborne and sister of Ashleigh Claiborne. Kenya is the wife of Marcus Roberts and the mother of one handsome two year old son Maxwell Roberts. She grew up In Shreveport, Louisiana. Kenya has obtained a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from Southern University & A &M College, a master’s degree in Education focusing on Administration and Supervision from Louisiana State University in Shreveport, and a doctorate degree from Walden University in Teacher Leadership. Kenya has taught mathematics students, taught alternate certification, been a math interventionist, a master teacher, an intervention specialist, and an assistant principal. Currently, she is the newly appointed principal at Dr. Joseph Samuel Clark Elementary School, a math adjunct professor at Bossier Parish Community College and owner of PACE Educational Consulting. Her experiences have enabled her to see what it takes to close the achievement gap for children.

Kenya is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Phi Delta Kappa Sorority, and Top Ladies of Distinction. Kenya is an active member in her church, Greater Pleasant Grove Baptist church. Kenya has led 30 plus etiquette workshops in the state of Louisiana and continuously speaks, motivates and mentors youth in this city. When Kenya is not teaching teachers, leading workshops or mentoring students, she enjoys playing with her son, going on family trips, shopping, and party planning.

DR. JOSLIN PICKENS

Dr. Joslin Mar-Dai Pickens serves as Chair of the Communication and General Studies Department and is a tenured, Associate Professor of Communication and Mass Communication at Southern University at Shreveport. She also serves as the Vice-President of the SUSLA Faculty Senate. In addition, Pickens works as an adjunct professor of Leadership Studies in the Doctor of Education program at Saint Peter’s University. Dr. Pickens is the recipient of a national Excellence in Teaching Award for Colleges and Universities, and the Shreveport-Bossier Chamber of Commerce, Young Professional Initiative of Northwest Louisiana 40 Under 40 honoree. She is the co-chair of professional development in the Young Professional Initiative Executive Committee, and a member of the Renzi Education and Art Center Advisory Board.

Some would wonder how she has time for anything else, but Pickens makes the time to commit herself to fulfilling her passion. As the CEO of Definitely Natural, since 2013, she has created an international haven for customers and celebrity clientele that desire a more natural lifestyle through handmade skincare, haircare and holistic living advice. Keeping that same theme of her life for holistic health, Pickens teamed up with her teenage daughter to author their first vegan recipe book that hit the shelves in October 2017, called “7 Days Vegan: Vegan Remixes for Everyday Eating”. This has sparked yet another business venture that Dr. Pickens hopes to launch in early 2018. Dr. Pickens is a proud graduate of Grambling State University where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication with a concentration in Public Relations; and a Master of Arts in Cross-Cultural Communication. She is the first Black graduate, first woman graduate, first person to graduate with a biological sibling, and one of the first three graduates of the Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership Studies program in history at Louisiana State University Shreveport. Perhaps the accomplishment that she is most proud of is motherhood. Pickens is a busy, dance mom and model mom to her teenage daughter, Jalynn Mar’Dai. She is also a member of Greenwood Acres Full Gospel Baptist Church, and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

MRS. LATASHA WASHINGTON

A Shreveport, Louisiana native and world traveler, La Tasha earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and African American Studies at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana where she minored in French and completed the Liberal Arts Honors Program. La Tasha earned her Master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Organizational Leadership from Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa.

She is adept at analyzing and interpreting data and working in diverse environments. A dedicated professional with extensive communication, marketing, and public relations experience in various industries, La Tasha offers team leadership and strong organizational skills. She also offers extensive fundraising, brand marketing, and strategic planning skills.

These skills helped her to direct all youth entrepreneurship activities for a local non-profit organization. She identified and shared over 50 grant opportunities, and even personally wrote requests that garnered over $200,000 for the youth entrepreneurship education and training programs. La Tasha is also a successful entrepreneur. After years of being a “guaranteed money-maker” for temporary services, of excelling in corporate America, and of requests for virtual assistant services, La Tasha incorporated LTW Inc of Northwest Louisiana in the state of Louisiana on May 27, 2003.
